Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino Review

Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino Review

My fiancé and I recently visited San Juan, Puerto Rico. After an unfortunate Airbnb mishap (read the details in my Travel Nightmares post), we decided to book a hotel at the very last minute (we wanted to check in within an hour of booking).  Being SPG members, we searched for Sheraton hotels nearby so we could use and earn points. We ended up at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino which is one of the two Sheraton hotels in San Juan (the other is Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel).

Location

The hotel is located right next to a large convention center and is surrounded by various restaurants and bars. It is less than ten minutes away from Old San Juan, a cruise port, several and beaches. The view from the hotel is not the most scenic in San Juan but it is still very nice - mostly city skyline.

Customer Service

We made our reservation over the phone and arrived to check in 30-45 minutes later. Despite the lobby and hotel area being very busy, we were assisted and checked in almost immediately. The front desk staff was kind, attentive, and very helpful. Check in was simple but check out was even better! All we had to check out in the morning was dial zero then drop our room keys in the return box.

Pricing

Our rate was $123 per night. I cannot complain considering we made a reservation minutes before checking in. If I had more time to plan our stay, I would have searched online for a cheaper rate.

Room (Size, Cleanliness, etc.)

We were put in a single room with a king bed. It was a good sized room but not the largest Sheraton room I have stayed in. The bed was extremely comfortable (and most importantly, clean). The room was accessorized with a medium work desk and chair, a flat screen TV, a safe, and an iPhone docking station/alarm clock (which was really helpful considering I forgot my phone charger at home), and a comfy armchair next to a small side table. We were only on the fourth floor but the room featured a balcony decorated with weatherproof wood flooring, a short wicker coffee table, and two low wicker chairs. I am not tall enough to see over the balcony wall but my fiancé is and he said the view was just okay - mostly buildings and empty grass lots.

Amenities

Pool

We were happy to stay on the fourth floor because that is where the pool is located! We spent most of our stay at the pool area because it was absolutely beautiful. There is an infinity pool, a hot tub, a kiddie pool, a restaurant and bar, a large grassy lounge area (which I believe is sometimes used for weddings), and more than enough lounge chairs and tables to go around. The view from the pool is also just okay. We could see the cruise port and a tiny bit of the beach but there is a large construction zone down below so most of the time, we were just looking at a huge dirt patch.

Food

We ordered room service the night we arrived and we were deeply disappointed. We ordered two burgers and fries at $17 a pop. The fries were delicious and crispy but the burger was so bland and greasy, it was nearly inedible.

We ate lunch at the pool bar. We ordered BBQ wings, french fries, and passion fruit mojitos. The mojitos were absolutely delicious and the fries were perfectly crispy once again but the wings were not good at all - the BBQ sauce tasted like ketchup.

Needless to say, we did not eat at the hotel for the remainder of our stay. We ate at Caficultura and Cafe Puerto Rico in Old San Juan - read my Foodie Friday posts about these delicious restaurants here.

Internet Lounge - Link@Sheraton

Unfortunately, I forgot to put my Fiverr account on vacation mode so I received a freelance writing job with an urgent due date in the middle of my trip. I wanted to sit by the pool and write but I forgot to charge my laptop battery the night before. Fortunately for me, the Link@Sheraton was just two floors below. The Link features several desktop computers, wall to wall desks, and plenty of outlets (I charged all of my electronics right then and there). The space was quiet and served it’s purpose perfectly.

Casino

We did not visit the casino during our stay but we did overhear that Tito Puente gave a surprise performance the night we checked in.

Other Amenities

We did not visit the Zen Spa, fitness center, or other dining areas.

I give the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino an 8/10. My biggest complaint is the food. It needs improvement and could probably benefit from a bit of authentic Puerto Rican influence. Overall, the hotel is very comfortable and relaxing.

xoxo,
