Get to Know Me - The Blogger Tag
I was tagged by Lydia of Mademoiselle. You can view her original post here. I love tags as I feel they bring me closer to my readers and open the channel for communication. This tag discusses what it is like to be a blogger and what keeps me going. Enjoy!
1. When and why did you start blogging?
This is my third blog. I have been blogging here at mssdyt.com since October of 2016. My previous blogs:
Haute Heels - A personal style blog I started (and ended) in high school (7+ years ago)
Lotus Saturday - A style and lifestyle blog I started in my junior year of college (2-3 years ago). I stopped blogging at that time because I hated Wordpress and was very busy with school
2. Where does your blog name come from?
My blog name comes from my YouTube channel. I started my YouTube channel to share reviews of clothing websites so I wanted the name to represent my honesty and genuine thoughts. I originally went for Shopaholic Diaries but ended up with Ms. Shopaholic Diaries when the username was taken (ha ha!)
3. What do you blog about and why?
I blog about affordable fashion and travel. My personal style has always been influenced by shopping wisely and looking great while doing it! I love sharing my affordable style tips with others so I decided blogging about it would be the best option.
The travel portion of my blog is something that I started recently. I had a massive stockpile of travel photos on my hard drive and quickly realized travel photography is something I love! Sharing with others makes it so much more fun.
4. What was the first blog you started following?
5. What is your favorite thing about blogging?
My favorite thing about blogging is the photoshoots. I love playing with my cameras and that amazing feeling when I get the perfect shot!
And I love networking! Meeting fellow creative minds and discussing projects, ideas, etc is so refreshing and motivating!
6. What do you find is the toughest thing about blogging?
Time management and scheduling are the toughest skills I mastered. I am currently a small business owner, college student, a bride-to-be, AND full-time receptionist. It is really important for me to plan my whole week out in order to make time for blogging. It is tedious but essential.
7. What is your biggest blogging pet peeve?
Soooo Many: When I accidentally delete photos/footage before putting them on my external hard drive, when the forecast calls for nothing but sun and I plan to shoot then I go outside and it’s raining, when I want to connect with other bloggers but I get nervous/shy out of nowhere, when I see something that looks amazing to the naked eye but crappy in a photo, when people bash bloggers.
8. What camera and photo editing software do you use?
Cameras: Canon Rebel t3i, Canon Rebel t5, GoPro Hero4 Silver
Editing Software: Canva, BeFunky, Fotor, Photoshop, Gimp, Background Burner
9. What would be your dream campaign?
Chanel - I would have died to be in their supermarket runway show!
10. How do you come up with posts ideas?
One of my best qualities is that I can get inspiration from literally anything! I love scrolling through Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram for inspiration but I get my best post ideas from random conversations and situations that are usually unrelated to fashion or travel. For example, I decided to start a date night ideas and lookbook series after compiling a list of fun date nights for my fiance and I to try. I did not have the intention to blog it at first but now it is fun for everyone!
11. How and what keeps you motivated to keep writing?
I am naturally a very driven person but what keeps me especially motivated to continue blogging and writing is the feedback I get from others. It is so gratifying when someone finds my ramblings helpful.
12. What are your blogging goals for 2018?
I would like to do more collaborations and travel posts. I recently created my first travel video and now I am hooked! My fiance had to say to me “You know we can’t have a road trip every single weekend, right?”
13. What advice would you pass on to new bloggers?
Schedule and plan every single aspect of every single blog post (shooting, editing, writing, uploading, promoting, etc).
Do not focus on the numbers because it takes time to build a following but pay attention to your numbers because progress and growth are motivating, to say the least.
Network, network, network. Join Twitter chats, Facebook groups, local groups, etc. The wealth of information available from fellow bloggers and creatives is amazing!
I hope this post helps you all get to know me a bit better! I love sharing tidbits and details of my favorite hobby with you all. I tag Lauren of Outdoorsy Diva, Jordan of The Hat Logic, and Joyce of Never Chill Lynn.
